Things to Do

Tonto National Forest is an incredible destination spanning an area of more than 2.9 million acres. Tonto is the fifth largest of the USDA’s 154 National Forests, and its landscape ranks highly among the most stunningly beautiful in the entire nation. From the cacti and flatlands of the Sonoran Desert to the majestic highlands of the Mogollon Rim, Tonto National Forest is a destination like no other. Visitors can also explore cave dwellings built 700 years ago by the local Salado people. At night, Tonto National Forest’s pristine canopy of stars is as bright and unblemished as it was when the cave dwellings were built. Bartlett Lake is a hidden gem nestled in the heart of the Tonto National Forest. Marinas along the lakeshore offer boat storage and rentals, and you can take to the lake’s 2,815-acre surface area with rented jet skis, stand-up paddleboards, kayaks, and party yachts.
